EVs can be charged in a variety of ways, depending on their charging mode and what kind of charging station they are connected to. Different charging modes offer different charging speeds and capabilities, so it’s important to understand which type of charging will best suit your EV needs.

Mode 2 EV charging uses an AC outlet to charge the vehicle, which can be found in most homes and public spaces. The EV’s onboard charger converts the AC current into DC current to charge the battery. This charging method is a bit slower than other options, and it can take between 18 minutes to over an hour to get from 10% to 80% of capacity.

In this mode, the EVSE communicates with the on-board charger via an in-cable control and protection device, which has a built-in current limitation and other safety features. It also supports several control and protection functions, including verifying the protective earth connection, regulating the maximum current capability of the cable assembly, and analyzing power demand.

In push mode, the EVSE shares its current reservation, charging queue of the EV and price of time charging with nearby RSUs periodically. The RSUs then send the subscription query to the EV, which responds with its request information. EV Charging Modes
