Reserve residences are a key element of University Housing’s on-campus experience. These residences, located in our four residence halls, offer a variety of living options for students attending UCR. Whether you’re looking for a room, an apartment or a suite, we have the option that’s right for you.
The first step is to submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and pay the required $35 fee. Once your SIR is processed, you’ll receive a Student ID Number and password through MyUCR that you can use to complete your housing application and contract online. Once you’ve completed your housing application, we’ll send you a contract and confirm your room assignment and move-in day through the MyHousing portal and through your student email.
You’ll need to sign the residence hall contract within three business days of submitting your SIR, and you’ll need to submit the campus apartment application before the start of the quarter you’re enrolling in. Once your contract and campus apartment application are submitted, you’ll be given a date for moving into your new housing for Fall Quarter.
Your room and apartment will be assigned by your Residential Community Director and you’ll have a tour to go over the details of your housing plan and move-in day. Once you’re living in your new space, you’ll have access to a wealth of services and resources from our staff, including resident support, a study lounge, fitness centers, and more!
Our goal is to provide you with the best possible experience in your new home, and help you make the most of your UCR education. That’s why we’ve crafted a wide variety of residential services and amenities designed to elevate your life.
Resident Support
We employ full time, master’s level professional staff at each of our Reserve Residence communities to provide a range of programs and services for residents. Our Residential Community Directors oversee all residential communities alongside Assistant Residential Community Directors, who are graduate students pursuing degrees at Case Western Reserve University or Kent State University.
Assistant Residential Community Directors support our Residential Community Directors and assist with the residential planning process, providing support to residents through one-on-one appointments, community gatherings, and special events. They also assist in coordinating our experience model and working to create a safe and welcoming living environment.

Despite the challenges faced by reserves, they are still vibrant communities where Indigenous languages are spoken and Indigenous culture thrives. Nevertheless, many are in dire financial distress and may be facing federal intervention if their band finances continue to fall behind. Ottawa has been taking a hard line with First Nations, with one-third of them now subject to some form of fiscal management.
